Mauro Zarate - Tottenham news

Mauro Zarate, remember him? Tottenham are now being linked with a January move for the striker.

If his name rings a bell, he had a loan spell with Birmingham City joining in January 2008 until the end of the season and scored 4 goals in 14 appearances.

The 23-year-old Argentinean is currently playing his football in Italy with Lazio and according to Fifa agent Jose Alberti, Spurs are set to bid £20.9million.

“Personally, I know that Tottenham would still be willing to take the player,” Alberti told lalaziosiamonoi.it.

“About a month ago, I spoke with someone who is a worth a lot at the club, who assured me that Spurs had an offer of about 25 millions euros ready for Zarate.”

Spartak Moscow are also said to be keen: “Even Russia want him,” added Alberti. “Spartak Moscow asked me about him, but Mauro would hardly accept that destination.”

“If he leaves Rome, he could consider Spain and he should go immediately to Real,” said Alberti.

“However, speaking with Mauro a few weeks ago, he told me that he came to Italy to play with Lazio. He is a fan of Lazio and has no intentions of leaving as yet.”

He added: “(However) there are some situations that could indicate a future far from Lazio for Zarate.”

  1. Who the hell is he? £20.9 million? LOL

Having a laugh aint you? we can get someone better for cheaper and not a un-named person who was loaned at Birmingham thanks!

  2. Zarate is worth no where near £10 million let alone £20 million. What has he done to warrant this transfer fee?

Let's see. he went from Velez to Al-Sadd in Qatar solely for money before bailing to go on loan with Birmingham. Birmingham decided it wasn't beneficial to extend his loan deal so he went back to Al-Sadd. From there he went to Lazio on loan before securing a permanent deal.

Since leaving Velez he has scored TWENTY-FOUR goals for THREE clubs in THREE YEARS.

@Mus: How do you figure he should've been in Argentina's World Cup squad when he has never played for the senior side? This also give you an idea at how poorly he is thought of when you consider that Maradona chose NINETY-FIVE players during his tenure as national team coach.

Your argument is invalid. And his agent is looking for a cheque to cash, again.

  3. Zarate is world class. He should have been in Argentina’s world cup squad, possibly in the starting lineup but Maradona’s ignorance hurt him. 20mil is a fair price.

  4. After reading that I think he needs to change his agent and quick, I love the bit where he states if he goes to Spain he should straight away join Real, brilliant.
