Agent claims Spurs preparing £20.9m bid for striker

Mauro Zarate - Tottenham news

Mauro Zarate, remember him? Tottenham are now being linked with a January move for the striker.

If his name rings a bell, he had a loan spell with Birmingham City joining in January 2008 until the end of the season and scored 4 goals in 14 appearances.

The 23-year-old Argentinean is currently playing his football in Italy with Lazio and according to Fifa agent Jose Alberti, Spurs are set to bid £20.9million.

“Personally, I know that Tottenham would still be willing to take the player,” Alberti told lalaziosiamonoi.it.

“About a month ago, I spoke with someone who is a worth a lot at the club, who assured me that Spurs had an offer of about 25 millions euros ready for Zarate.”

Spartak Moscow are also said to be keen: “Even Russia want him,” added Alberti. “Spartak Moscow asked me about him, but Mauro would hardly accept that destination.”

“If he leaves Rome, he could consider Spain and he should go immediately to Real,” said Alberti.

“However, speaking with Mauro a few weeks ago, he told me that he came to Italy to play with Lazio. He is a fan of Lazio and has no intentions of leaving as yet.”

He added: “(However) there are some situations that could indicate a future far from Lazio for Zarate.”
