Agent confirms Spurs made offer for Ligue 1 striker

Habib Diallo’s agent, Thierno Seydi has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur made an offer for the FC Metz forward during the January transfer window.

Spurs have reportedly sent scouts to France to watch Diallo in action earlier this season (TEAMtalk).

The Senegalese international has outperformed expectations in the French top flight this season, notching 12 goals in 26 league appearances for the club (transfermarkt.com).

The 24-year-old’s strength and his ability in the air have proven to be real assets for Metz over the course of the campaign.

Tottenham were on the lookout for a striker during the January transfer window after losing Harry Kane to a hamstring injury but the club eventually ended their search for a striker empty-handed.

Seydi has now revealed that the Lilywhites failed with an offer for Diallo.

He told Senegalese Press Agency (as relayed by GFFN): “Already in January, there was an offer from Tottenham.

“As soon as the European markets open, things should precipitate.”

I would not read too much into an agent’s revelation as he is bound to make it seem as if his client is sought after by the biggest clubs in Europe. Additionally, we were getting pretty desperate towards the end of the transfer window in January and I suspect we probably failed with last-minute offers for several strikers. That does not mean that they are still of interest to us this summer given that we are likely to have more options to chose from.
