Agent confirms that Spurs showed interest in French forward this summer

The agent of Sassuolo forward Armand Lauriente has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur were one of several clubs to show interest in his client this summer.

Spurs did not sign an out-and-out number nine to replace Harry Kane, with Ange Postecoglou instead choosing to add a couple of wide-forwards to his frontline in Manor Solomon and Brennan Johnson.

It has now emerged that the Lilywhites also showed interest in another pacy wide man who can play on either flank – Lauriente.

The Frenchman arrived at Sassuolo from FC Lorient in a €10m (£8.7m) deal in 2022 and has since gone on to score eight goals and seven assists in 34 appearances for the Serie A side (Transfermarkt).

It might not be too long before the 24-year-old makes a step up to a bigger side and his agent, Roberto Meloni, has now opened the door to that possibility.

Tottenham were interested in Lauriente

When asked if Lauriente could leave Sassuolo next summer, he told TuttoMercatoWeb: “I think so, although it will depend on his performance this year. We already had a lot of interest in him, but on a growth level we didn’t feel like leaving Sassuolo for the sake of change. It doesn’t make sense for us.”

Meloni then went on to reveal that several clubs from across Europe, including Spurs, expressed interest in his client this summer, but the winger preferred to continue his development at the Serie A side.

He added: “Bayer Leverkusen liked him instead of Diaby. Then there was interest from Tottenham and it is no mystery that Giuntoli likes him, if he had stayed at Napoli.

“In the Premier League, there was an attempt by West Ham, but he wants to get to an important level, preferring a second season at Sassuolo to confirm himself. He’s growing well with Dionisi, he’s getting on very well. Of course, next year he is on the list of departures with offers of a high level.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham would have likely explored several wide-forwards this summer before settling on Solomon and Johnson. The latter seemed to be a target that was very much pushed by Ange Postecoglou rather than the club’s recruitment team.
