Agent of Spurs-linked Alessandro Bastoni reiterates final verdict on client’s future

Alessandro Bastoni’s agent has reiterated the defender will stay at Inter Milan next season, seemingly bringing an end to Tottenham’s interest in the Italy international.

Bastoni has been a prime target for Spurs and head coach Antonio Conte during the transfer window so far, who has made adding a left centre-back a priority this summer (Football.London).

The Evening Standard reported that Inter may need to sacrifice the 23-year-old to balance the books and fund a move for Torino’s Gleison Bremer, who has emerged as a potential acquisition for the Nerazzurri.

But Bastoni’s representative Tullio Tinti recently met with the Inter hierarchy to clarify his client’s future, with discussions culminating in the defender staying at the San Siro for this season at least (Football Italia).

However, The Athletic’s Jack Pitt-Brooke, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, and Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth (GiveMeSport), have all hinted in some way that the interest may not be dead in the water.

But the Italian agent, when asked about the interest from clubs in England, further cemented Bastoni’s immediate future at Inter.

Tinti told Italian journalist Daniele Mari (as relayed by Fabrizio Romano): “Bastoni will stay at Inter next season, as we are used to respect contracts.”

This will almost certainly kill off any hope at Tottenham that a deal for Bastoni could be completed this summer at least.

It is a blow given how good he is and how well he would have slotted into Conte’s defence, but it means Spurs will now be able to move on to targeting other players ahead of pre-season.
