Agent of Spurs player claims it would be ‘an honour’ to see him join Serie A club

Steven Bergwijn’s agent has claimed it would be an honour to see his client join Napoli in the future.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are ready to cash in on Bergwijn, with several clubs from across the continent showing interest in signing the Tottenham winger.

Ajax have been heavily linked with a move for the 24-year-old, with the Dutch club said to have identified him as a replacement for David Neres.

However, Tottenham are alleged to have rejected an offer from the Amsterdam club to sign the wide man on loan.

Bergwijn’s agent Muy Manero has now been asked about a potential move to Napoli and, while he claimed it would be an honour to see such a transfer, he admitted there is nothing concrete at the moment.

Manero also admitted that the former PSV Eindhoven man came close to joining Inter Milan when now Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti was at Inter.

He told CalcioMeracto: “Seeing him (Bergwijn) at Napoli would be an honour, but there’s really nothing.

“Bergwijn was very close to Inter, but then in that summer, Spalletti left.

“If a coach who played with 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 had arrived, he would have joined the Nerazzurri.”

Reading between the lines of Manero’s statement, it does seem like Bergwijn is keen on a fresh challenge away from Spurs. One cannot necessarily blame the 24-year-old as he has endured a frustrating two years at Spurs as he has never quite managed to get a consistent run in the starting eleven.
