Agent plays down reports of a rift between Jose Mourinho and summer arrival

Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has insisted the 31-year-old has a good relationship with Jose Mourinho.

There have been some reports that Mourinho and Bale have fallen out, with the Spurs boss having said to be furious after Bale posted a picture of himself in training on Instagram claiming he was feeling good and subsequently was not ready to face Everton in the FA Cup last week.

Barnett has played down speculation of the pair being at loggerheads, instead claiming that journalists are to blame for the rumours.

The midfielder, who returned to North London on a season long loan from Real Madrid in the summer has spent most of his time on the bench.

Bale was handed a rare start by Mourinho in Thursday’s 4-1 Europa League win against Wolfsberger and repaid his manager with a goal and an assist.

The Welshman showed he is still capable of producing moments of magic after scoring a brilliant individual goal against the Austrian side.

“They have a good relationship, there is no problem,” Barnett told Goal.

“It’s journalists who create the problem, but there is no problem.

“We expected him to play more; things haven’t gone that well, but the team haven’t gone [as] good as well.”
