Agent comments on future of £22m-rated left-back reportedly wanted by Spurs

The agent of Rangers left-back, Borna Barisic, who is said to be on Tottenham’s radar for the summer, has now given an update on his client’s future.

90 min reported earlier this month that Spurs had made Barisic one of their primary targets in the summer as Jose Mourinho wished to bolster his options at left-back, with Rangers valuing him at around £22m.

It was claimed that the Spurs boss is preparing for life without Jan Vertonghen next season and views the Croatian international has the ideal replacement for the Belgian.

The 27-year-old has already registered a staggering fourteen assists in all competitions so far this campaign (transfermarkt).

Italian newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport, meanwhile, claim that Napoli are also interested in the Rangers star.

However, Barisic’s agent, Ives Cakarun has revealed that the defender is solely focussed on the task at hand at Rangers. When asked about Napoli’s interest, Cakarun told the Scottish Sun: “Napoli? Borna is concentrated only on the path with Rangers until next summer.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Barisic has been impressive this campaign, I don’t believe he is the answer to our problems at left-back. He is completely unproven in the top European leagues and so it will be a gamble to sign him. While there is no doubting the Croatian’s quality going forward, it remains to be seen if he can cope with the defensive demands of the Premier League.
