Agent reveals how Spurs summer signing could have joined Napoli instead

Stefano Antonelli, the owner of the Football Service agency, that manages Destiny Udogie, has now revealed Napoli were also keen on snapping up the left-back.

Tottenham signed Udogie for an initial fee of £15.4m, which could rise to £21.5m including add-ons (Fabrizio Romano), and loaned the youngster back to Udinese.

The 19-year-old has started the campaign in excellent form, with two goals in six appearances in the Serie A so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Italian publication Il Bianconero revealed last month that Juventus were also keen on snapping up Udogie in the summer but Spurs were able to see off competition from the Old Lady thanks to their willingness to loan the youngster back to Udinese in the summer.

One of Destiny Udogie’s representatives, Ferdinando Guarino, revealed a couple of weeks ago that Inter Milan also showed interest in the teenager during the summer transfer window (TuttoMercatoWeb).

According to Antonelli’s latest update, a third Italian club in the form of Napoli were also keen on snapping up Udogie.

The agent told Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli (29/09/22 – as relayed by Spazio Napoli): “This summer, I went to the Napoli camp in Dimaro. On that occasion, [Napoli director Cristiano] Giuntoli had asked me for Udogie, but that was a difficult moment.

“There was a bit of sadness in the environment, we sailed on sight, we did not know the real intentions of president De Laurentiis and there were a series of situations.

“That was not the right moment to close that negotiation, which in another moment could absolutely have been concluded positively.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that all the big hitters of Italian football seemingly wanted Udogie, shows just how highly the teenager is thought of in his home country. It appears as if Paratici has pulled off another masterstroke by signing the 19-year-old and loaning him back to Udinese.
