Agent reveals player turned down two clubs to ‘seize’ Spurs move this summer

Destiny Udogie’s agent, Ferdinando Guarino, has revealed that although other clubs showed interest in his client this summer, the decision to join Tottenham was made as soon as the North London club entered the race.

Tottenham reportedly agreed on a deal worth an initial £15.5m plus £6m in add-ons for Udogie during the summer window (Fabrizio Romano) before loaning the youngster back to Udinese for the remainder of the current campaign.

The 21-year-old hit the limelight with his impressive displays at left wing-back at Dacia Arena last season and he has started the new campaign with a bang.

Udogie has already found the back of the net twice in six Serie A appearances so far this season (Transfermarkt), with Udinese boss Andrea Sottil waxing lyrical about him over recent weeks (TMW).

TuttoMercatoWeb reported earlier this month that Inter Milan were keen on signing the Italy Under-21 international but was beaten to the punch by Tottenham.

Guarino has now confirmed that Inter and Juventus both held talks regarding a deal for his client this summer before Spurs entered the picture.

Ugogie’s agent told Spazio Inter: “Several teams have taken an interest in Udogie, including from Italy. We had some talks with Inter and Juve, for example, but then when Tottenham’s opportunity arose it was difficult not to seize it quickly.”

The fact that the likes of Juve and Inter were also keen on Udogie, is a testament to how highly he is thought of in Italian football. This looks like a really smart deal by Spurs as the 21-year-old’s value could potentially double by next summer if he has another impressive season at the Dacia Arena.
