Alan Hutton claims he would be shocked if Celtic managed to sign this Spurs player

The Athletic reported earlier this month that a whole host of clubs were vying to take Ryan Sessegnon on a season-long loan from Tottenham this summer, including Celtic.

Spurs signed the youngster from Fulham last summer for a £25m fee (BBC), but Sessegnon barely featured for them across the 2019/20 campaign.

After suffering a nasty injury to start his Tottenham career, Sessegnon found minutes few and far between under Jose Mourinho in North London.

In fact, the former Fulham winger made just 12 appearances for the Lilywhites across the season, with only six of those coming in the Premier League (Wikipedia).

Spurs fans would have been hoping to see the Sessegnon who netted 16 times in 52 games for the Cottagers in the 2017/18 Championship season, but the teenager struggled to get going after his big-money move.

Former Spurs defender, Alan Hutton claimed that he saw no future in which Sessegnon joins Celtic on loan this summer as it would be a massive step back for him, adding that he needs to stay in the Premier League.

Hutton told Football Insider: “The crystal ball says no, that’s my opinion. There’s no way.

“I think for Sessegnon, and it’s no disrespect to Scotland at all, it would be a massive step back for him. He moved from Fulham to Tottenham, he’s had some injury problems, it’s not quite worked out but we all know he’s a great player.

“If he was to go out on loan anywhere it would have to be a Premier League team that he would go to. I just can’t see that one happening. I’d be very, very shocked if that deal went through.”
