Alan Hutton confident that teenager will thrive under Mourinho

Former Tottenham full-back Alan Hutton has asserted that Ryan Sessegnon will develop into a top player under the watchful eyes of Jose Mourinho.

Sessegnon hasn’t seen much game time since moving to Spurs from Fulham in the summer. While injuries prevented him from getting opportunities early in the season, the 19-year-old has been handed a few chances since Jose Mourinho arrived at the club.

In fact, he has started all of Tottenham’s last three games – a big vote of confidence by the Spurs boss. The teenager is once again expected to start against Middlesbrough on Sunday with Mourinho confirming that both Danny Rose and Ben Davies are out (Football.London).

Hutton insisted that Sessegnon had all the qualities needed to play at the top level and that he will be a great asset for the club in the future. He was also confident that Mourinho’s arrival will do wonders for the youngster’s development.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Tottenham defender said, “He’s a very good player, for one so young he’s very quick and can cause a lot of problems.

“It was disappointing for him to sign for Tottenham and then have the injury so he missed a lot of the start of the season but I think he’s one for the future.

“I think he’ll flourish under someone like Mourinho, he’ll get the best out of him, hopefully now he can go on, possibly get a run of games and grow into the Spurs shirt because I think he could be a great asset going forward.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Sessegnon’s talent is still quite raw, I have been impressed by his work rate and his attitude so far. Contrary to Mourinho’s suggestion, I actually don’t think he is an attacking player. If he wants to play at the top level, then I believe he will have to evolve into a left-back.
