Alan Pardew predicts which team is ‘looking good’ to finish fourth – Spurs or Aston Villa

Alan Pardew has installed Tottenham Hotspur as the clear favourites to secure fourth place ahead of both Aston Villa and Manchester United.

Spurs’ Champions League credentials were put to the test at Villa Park last Sunday, with the Lilywhites going into the game knowing that a defeat would see the Villans build an eight-point lead over them.

While Unai Emery’s men managed to keep things tight in the first half, the away side blew them away in the second period, eventually emerging 4-0 winners.

Not only was that a statement performance from the Lilywhites but it also served as a severe dent to the morale of their closest competitors for the fourth spot.

Tottenham vs Aston Villa for fourth place

While Villa still sit two points above Tottenham, the North London club have a game in hand and also now boast a superior goal difference.

Pardew insisted that the West Midlands club and Manchester United are both in with a shot of sneaking into fourth but he named Spurs as clear favourites, given the standard of performances they have delivered all through the season.

When asked about the race for Champions League qualification, the former Newcastle manager told talkSPORT (7:25 pm, March 10, 2024): “You have got Newcastle falling away, Chelsea have fallen away, Man United are still, I was there yesterday.

“They are a strange team, you know. They look vulnerable, yet they have such quality at the top of the pitch. They are still in with a shout, and you have got the Villa.

“So, you look at it, and I would put Tottenham favourites at the moment, not just because of today’s win (over Villa), but because of what you have done this season. You have been excellent. You have only lost six games. You are looking good for it.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe that the best Man Utd can hope for now is a fifth-place finish, with the fourth spot being a direct tussle between us and Villa.

The Spurs players will take a lot of confidence from the display they delivered at Villa Park and Postecoglou will be hoping that they can now string together a decent run of results and pull away from Villa.
