Alan Shearer includes 23-year-old Spurs man in his Premier League team of the week

Alan Shearer has named both Lucas Moura and Joe Rodon in his Premier League team of the weak after both players impressed during Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa.

There were some surprises in Tottenham’s starting line up at Villa Park on Sunday, with Jose Mourinho deciding to hand starts for the likes of Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga, Giovani Lo Celso and Carlos Vinicius.

The Spurs boss’ decision was vindicated with the away side having to roll up their sleeves and come away with a deserved win, even though their performance was sometimes lacking in quality.

Moura was arguably the best player on the pitch as he troubled the Villa defence all night with his willingness to run with the ball.

Rodon put in another solid display at the back when he and central defensive partner Davinson Sanchez hardly gave Ollie Watkins a sniff through the entire game.

The Welshman did enough to make into Shearer’s Team of the Week along with Moura and he will be hoping to now get a run of games under his belt after watching on from the sidelines for much of the campaign so far.

Spurs Web Opinion

Moura has been one of our most consistent performers for the last couple of months and it is great to see the Brazilian getting the credit he deserves. Rodon showed maturity beyond his years on Sunday and deserves to have run of matches under his belt, given how poor our other centre-backs have been all season.
