Alan Shearer jokes that he wants Tottenham star to transfer abroad

Alan Shearer has joked that he wants Harry Kane to leave the Premier League so the Tottenham striker does not break his goal record.

Shearer holds the record of the most goals in Premier League history, and the Newcastle legend does so by a huge margin, having 260 strikes to his name, which is 52 more than Wayne Rooney in second place (PremierLeague.com).

Kane is slowly but surely creeping up on the record, with the Tottenham striker currently sitting in fifth place with 183 goals to his name.

The England captain needs only five more to overtake Sergio Aguero and Andy Cole into third place, and he may even be hoping to overtake Rooney’s tally by the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

With Kane set to turn 29 this week, the Tottenham man still has many years of football left in him, and Shearer admitted that he has a great chance of beating his record should he remain in the Premier League.

The former Magpies star told Sky Sports: “He’s (Kane) got a really good opportunity of doing it. He’s a fantastic player. I know he wants it – and wants it badly – so yeah he’s got a really good chance of doing it. I think he should be abroad!”

Shearer is right in saying that Kane clearly has his eyes on that record. That could perhaps be one more reason why the striker is tempted to put pen to paper on a new contract with Tottenham this summer.

Given the way Kane looks after himself and the fact that he is not reliant on his physical attributes, I can quite easily see him continue to play at the top level until he is 36, which will be more than enough time to comfortably pass Shearer.
