Alan Shearer made touching promise to Harry Kane in recent face-to-face meeting

Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane has been speaking to Alan Shearer about the Premier League goalscoring record in a recent instalment of Premier League Productions (05/02/2023 at 1:30 pm).

Let’s take a look at what the pair said about their battle to be the league’s all-time greatest goalscorer.

Shearer currently holds the record for most goals in the Premier League era, racking up 260 goals during his time with both Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United. His record as the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer still stands, despite him having retired in 2006.

After Kane’s winning goal against Manchester City yesterday, he became Tottenham’s all-time top goalscorer with 267 goals, surpassing Jimmy Greaves’ record which had stood for over 50 years (GOAL).

Kane has also joined Wayne Rooney and Shearer in the 200 club, but still has some way to go before he overtakes the former Newcastle striker.

However, at the age of 29, it is thought Kane still has a few years in him yet and as long as he stays fit and stays in the Premier League, it is only a matter of time before he breaks that record.

Kane and Shearer joined forces for a goalscoring masterclass at the Hotspur Way training ground recently, and the pair discussed what will happen if and when the record is broken by Kane.

Shearer said: “Thank you very much for getting in the mind of a great goalscorer. I will come and visit you in two or three years time when you score goal number 261 in the Premier League.”

Kane replied: “Hope so, let’s hope so. Thank you very much.”

I think Shearer now knows his time as the league’s best-ever goalscorer is coming to an end, and it seems like most pundits and those in the game feel the same way too. Let’s just hope Kane stays with Tottenham in order to break the record, and gets a trophy along the way, too.
