Alan Shearer has admitted that Harry Kane has the best chance out of anyone when it comes to breaking his Premier League goal record.
Shearer was a goal-scoring machine during his playing days, with his Premier League goal tally for Blackburn and Newcastle standing at a whopping 260 goals (Premeirleague.com).
This tally excludes the 23 first-division goals that he got for Southampton before the Premier League began in 1992.
The Premier League has seen some word class strikers in the past three decades but none have come close to Shearer’s tally of 260.
Wayne Rooney is the only other player to have breached the 200 mark thus far as he found the back of net 208 times in his Premier League career (Premeirleague.com).
Shearer admitted that he has had conversations with Kane regarding his chances of breaking the record and insisted that the England captain has a good opportunity if he can stay injury-free.
The Newcastle legend told The Athletic: “Whenever I’ve met [Kane] and spoken to him, we’ve had a good laugh about that. There are a lot of ifs and buts but Harry has got the best chance of doing it.
“He needs 115 more to beat me. And he’s twenty-seven. So that’s 20 to 25 goals over the next five seasons. Harry’s going to have a really good go at it. A lot of it will come down to how many games he plays. You’ve got to steer clear of injuries.”

If Kane can stay injury-free, I would back him to break Shearer’s record within the next four seasons as he is easily capable of scoring 25+ a season. However, his injury record over recent years is worrying and if he is to keep missing 10 games a season, then it would be extremely difficult for him to reach the milestone.
