Alan Shearer sets Tottenham a clear points target to avoid Premier League relegation

Tottenham Hotspur’s fight for survival remains finely balanced, with Alan Shearer offering a clear indication of what could be enough to decide their fate.

It has taken Roberto De Zerbi just four games to get Tottenham Hotspur back-to-back wins in the Premier League, something that last occurred in August.

Spurs followed up their 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa, thanks to goals from Conor Gallagher and Richarlison.

That victory not only saw De Zerbi’s side deliver a much better performance but also ensured they moved out of the Premier League’s bottom three with three games left to play.

However, there is still much to play for, as Spurs are far from safe, with one point separating them from West Ham United in 18th place.

Alan Shearer predicts West Ham United struggle as Premier League survival race heats up

Former Premier League forward Alan Shearer has now outlined what Tottenham must do if they are to secure their Premier League status, while also assessing West Ham United’s chances in the run-in.

Speaking about West Ham’s situation and their remaining fixtures, Shearer explained that their path looks difficult and suggested how many points they might realistically collect, which could shape Tottenham’s survival hopes.

He said while speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast: “That’s a big, tough weekend for West Ham, after being beaten quite convincingly, and then having to sit through that Tottenham game and watch how good Tottenham were.

“And I think with West Ham, with their games coming up, their next two are Arsenal at home and Newcastle away, I think I’m right in saying and they finish with Leeds.

“I think there’s probably three points there for West Ham over the next three games. So it’s been a terrible weekend for West Ham.

“The best chance of getting three points, I think, is that last home game. Whether that’s going to be enough or not, I do not know, but it is tough for them now.”

Shearer also added that he does not think that the Hammers will get anything from games against Arsenal and Newcastle, so if Spurs can pick up three points against Leeds, according to Shearer, they would be safe. In fact, even a couple of draws could be enough for Spurs, if Shearer is right.

Tottenham face a defining weekend in the survival race

This weekend is set to be pivotal for Tottenham, who will be torn as both West Ham United and Arsenal clash in the Premier League.

The Gunners, Spurs’ fiercest rivals, are pushing for the Premier League title and now have an advantage following Manchester City’s latest draw.

A victory over West Ham will take Mikel Arteta’s men closer to the title, something many Tottenham fans would rather not see, but at the same time, it will edge Spurs closer to safety.

It is a bit of a two-edged sword, as should West Ham win, they will leapfrog Tottenham into 17th before the Lilywhites face Leeds United on Monday night.

Regardless, Tottenham must win their games if they are to avoid relegation, as their destiny is in their own hands.
