Alan Shearer predicts Tottenham vs Aston Villa result in the winless derby

Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer has delivered his prediction for Tottenham’s clash with Aston Villa on Saturday.

Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are set to face each other in what is expected to be a big Premier League clash this weekend.

The two sides have met 62 times in the Premier League, and it is Tottenham who have come out on top most often, with the Lilywhites winning 27 of those meetings.

Villa, meanwhile, have won 20, while 15 others have ended in a draw. The last five meetings between the two sides also favour Spurs, with Tottenham winning three of those encounters.

Alan Shearer predicts Tottenham vs Aston Villa this weekend

However, this weekend feels a little different, with both Tottenham and Villa struggling for form this season.

The two sides are yet to win this campaign and, after a combined 12 hours of football, have managed just one goal between them – a single strike from Aston Villa in matchweek three.

This makes Saturday’s encounter a tough game to predict, but Alan Shearer has given it a go when speaking to Betfair.

He said: “I have got no confidence in either team to be honest and it looks another tough game to call this weekend. I think it will be a draw again. I think it has got draw written all over it and 0-0 written all over it, especially off the back of how both teams have underperformed so far this season.”

A draw would not help De Zerbi as pressure builds

While a draw is a reasonable outcome to expect, such a result will not do Roberto De Zerbi much good, as it would invite further pressure on the Italian.

Spurs only just had a historic transfer window where they spent close to £400 million, and a start of no wins in five will leave significant question marks over the manager.

A win, on the other hand, will be ideal for Tottenham as they head into the international break, helping to keep the feel‑good factor around north London.
