Alasdair Gold admits he will be ‘stunned’ if Spurs star is not offered new contract

Alasdair Gold has revealed that he would be stunned if Tottenham Hotspur do not offer Hugo Lloris a new contract if the goalkeeper continues his current vein of form.

Despite Lloris being in impressive form over the last couple of years, the Tottenham captain is now into the final year of his contract.

Ahead of Antonio Conte’s arrival at Tottenham, reports suggested that Spurs were set to offer the Frenchman a new two-year deal.

However, the situation may have changed after Conte’s appointment, with 90 min claiming last week that the Italian wants the club to sign Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana as he wants a goalkeeper who is better with the ball at his feet.

Lloris told L’Equipe this week that Tottenham remains his priority and he will have discussions with the club over his future ‘in the coming weeks’.

Alasdair Gold has now said on his YouTube Channel (starting at 27:19) that the Tottenham number one’s future is in his own hands.

The journalist opined that Lloris deserves a new deal and admitted he would be shocked if Spurs do not offer him one.

I agree with Alasdair that Lloris deserves a new contract, not just because of the standards he has maintained over the last couple of years but also due to his amazing service to the club.

However, I certainly would not be stunned if Conte decided that he wants a different style of goalkeeper with better distribution. The Italian likes goalkeepers who can bypass the opposition’s first line of press by picking out the wing-backs or midfielders.
