Alasdair Gold claims Paratici would have 24-year-old at Spurs ‘in a heartbeat’

Alasdair Gold has claimed that if Fabio Paratici could bring Weston McKennie to Tottenham in January, he would do so ‘in a heartbeat’.

McKennie has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs over recent months, with multiple publications backing the Lilywhites to explore a move for the Juventus man in January (La Repubblica and Ben Jacobs).

However, reports over recent weeks have indicated that Tottenham could face quite a bit of competition for the USA international in January.

Tuttosport first reported at the start of December that Borussia Dortmund were keen on snapping up McKennie while CalcioMercato subsequently suggested that Tottenham’s London rivals Chelsea were also eyeing a move for the attacking midfielder.

More recently, it has emerged that the 24-year-old is also on Liverpool’s radar (Daily Mail) while it has even been suggested that Juve could offer the midfielder to Brighton in a potential swap deal for another Spurs target in Alexis Mac Allister (CMW.it).

Gold has now said that Paratici will not hesitate if an oppurtunity to reunite with McKennie opens up in January.

The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “What’s really weird with the transfer market is that all of the links from Italy are for players that they already have similar in the midfield.

“I understand these are players that Paratici, and in some cases Conte, love. Weston McKennie. We know that Paratici adores him and would have him in a heartbeat at Spurs.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It will be interesting to see if Spurs prioritise a number eight like McKennie, Ruslan Malinovskyi or Franck Kessie in January, or if they opt to go for a more out-and-out winger like Wilfried Zaha or Ismaila Sarr.  I would not be surprised if it is the latter, given Moura’s and Richarlison’s injury troubles and Son’s form.
