Alasdair Gold claims Spurs ‘more hopeful’ of completing Diaz deal than Traore

Alasdair Gold has claimed Tottenham are currently more confident in signing Porto forward Luis Diaz than Wolves winger Adama Traore.

Tottenham had an opening bid of €45 million (£37.6m) for Diaz turned down by the Portuguese outfit on Tuesday, who have told the North London side they need to up their offer (The Guardian).

The move to sign the Colombia international seemingly came out of the blue, considering Spurs were allegedly in the process of trying to secure the services of Traore from Wolves ahead of next Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Telegraph reported last week that Wolves had rejected a £15 million bid from Spurs, but with the expectation that a deal would soon materialise.

However, the news of Spurs’ interest in Diaz could push the pursuit of Traore down the list of priorities according to Gold, who believes the club may not want to pass up on the opportunity to recruit a player of such quality.

As such, the Football.London correspondent believes Spurs are ‘more hopeful’ of securing a transfer for the Porto man, who has 14 goals in 18 league appearances this term (Transfermarkt).

Speaking on his YouTube channel (26/01/22, 0:40), Gold said: “Tottenham are looking to try and bring him to North London.

“The latest that I understand on the situation is there’s a growing hope that they might be able to get this deal done. They’re throwing everything at it. This transfer is their priority.

“At the moment, Spurs are more hopeful of this one happening than the Adama Traore [deal].”

Spurs Web Opinion

The news of Spurs’ interest in Diaz has certainly moved quickly over the last day or so, but there is likely going to be some ways to go regarding a deal being agreed. Spurs don’t exactly need a player in that part of the field, but it wouldn’t surprise anyone to see the club shift their attention to Diaz even with Traore waiting.
