Alasdair Gold claims Spurs will prioritise offering new contracts to two players

Alasdair Gold has predicted that Tottenham will be prioritising extending the contracts of Eric Dier and Harry Kane, with both players having just two years left to run on their current deals.

As is always the case every summer, there has been some speculation linking Kane with a move away from the club during the current transfer window (Kicker).

However, unlike 12 months ago, reports have indicated that the striker has no intention of departing the club and is even open to talks over a new contract.

Gold has now said that along with Kane, a new contract could also be on the offing for Dier, who has become an indispensable part of Tottenham’s backline under Antonio Conte.

The journalist revealed that while Lucas Moura’s current deal runs out next summer, Spurs have an option of extending the former PSG star’s contract by another 12 months.

He remarked that the North London club will have to make decisions on the Brazilian as well as on Matt Doherty and Davinson Sanchez.

When asked in a Q&A on Football.London which Spurs stars could be in line for new deals, Gold responded: “With two years left on their deals, Harry Kane and Eric Dier will be the priorities.

“Decisions will have to be made on Davinson Sanchez, Matt Doherty and Lucas Moura, with the latter having an option to take his deal up to 2024.

“Then after that, it’s a case of looking at the contracts of those with slightly longer left but who have performed well and deserve new deals as the season goes on.

“If Ryan Sessegnon can continue to remain injury free then he could be in that category as could potentially Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg if he stars this season.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I would not be surprised if Spurs offer Dier a new deal before Kane. The salary offered to the centre-back will be relatively modest when compared to the England captain and one would also expect it to be a more straightforward process.

Kane, on the other hand, might want to wait and see which direction the club are heading in this season, before committing his future.
