Alasdair Gold claims Spurs won’t pay over the odds for rumoured target

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur will not pay over the odds to sign Joe Rodon before the October 16 domestic transfer deadline.

Football Insider reported last week that Tottenham were ready to make an offer of around £13m for the centre-back after receiving encouragement from Swansea City.

However, it looks like the North Londoners might have to fend off some tough competition from other Premier League clubs if they want to get their hands on the 22-year-old.

The Daily Star claimed Manchester United and West Ham are also eyeing a move for the Wales international before Friday’s deadline, while The Sun has claimed that Leicester City and Sheffield United are also eyeing him as a potential option to strengthen their backline.

Gold admitted that Tottenham are unlikely to get into a bidding war with clubs for the centre-back and could pass up on the opportunity to sign him if the deal cannot be agreed for the right price.

When asked by a fan in a Q and A if Tottenham were going to offer £13m for the Swansea man, Gold responded: “As I understand it, Spurs are interested in the young Welshman and he is keen on joining but Tottenham Hotspur are a club that doesn’t do auctions.

“If others get involved, with Leicester and Sheffield United linked, and push that price up, Spurs won’t pay over the odds. Rodon is talented but I’d be surprised if Spurs paid that much upfront for him rather than look to structure a deal.”
