Alasdair Gold claims those within Spurs deny latest Director of Football rumours

Alasdair Gold and FootballLondon have revealed that those within Spurs have denied rumours about Mateu Alemany being a target this summer.

Gold wrote: “I heard there were links to Barcelona’s outgoing director of football Mateu Alemany, although those within Spurs firmly claim that the Spaniard is not of interest to the club and has not been interviewed for the role.

“There have been so many names linked to the job this summer, some have certainly been considered while some others have perhaps been happy to be included among the names reported in order to help their own career aspirations.

“It’s no different to the silly season in the transfer window with players. Whatever we think of the madhouse that Tottenham can be, for many players and staff it’s beneficial to be linked with a big Premier League club.

“Despite Paratici’s current consultancy role, a new director of football is definitely set to be appointed by the club.”

This comes after Fabrizio Romano reported that Tottenham Hotspur are considering Mateu Alemany as a potential option for their vacant Director of Football role.

Alemany is currently working for Barcelona, but will leave his position on September 2, and Spurs are looking at him as a potential option to take over in North London from that point.

Fabrizio Romano added that the director was close to agreeing a deal to join Aston Villa in June, but another opportunity to join the Premier League could now present itself in Tottenham.

Fabio Paratici is still advising Tottenham

Spurs parted ways with their previous Managing Director of Football, Fabio Paratici, earlier this year after the Italian was banned by FIFA for his alleged involvement in Juventus‘ capital gains scandal.

However, Paratici is still said to be advising the Tottenham board as a consultant and was even involved in the signing of Alejo Veliz recently (Football London).

Spurs Web Opinion:

It seems strange for Spurs to be getting a new director of football once the window is already shut. One would think that needed to happen at the start of the summer or, if Ange is happy with the current set-up and his involvement in transfers, perhaps Spurs don’t even need one.
