Alasdair Gold comments on Luis Campos’ potential exit after previous Spurs rumours

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has hinted that Luis Campos is unlikely to become Tottenham Hotspur’s director of football.

Jose Mourinho has previously worked with Campos during their time together at Real Madrid (Metro), while assistant coach Joao Sacramento and goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos having worked with him at Lille before joining Mourinho in North London.

Campos is credited heavily for unearthing the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Nicolas Pepe, James Rodriguez, Anthony Martial, Fabinho, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy (Sky Sports).

The 55-year-old was previously reported to be Tottenham’s radar, with a possible reunion with Mourinho being mooted as a possibility (L’Equipe via 90min).

The Daily Record reported on Friday that Campos had asked Lille owner Gerard Lopez to be released from his contract as head of recruitment for the French club.

This caused excitement among some Spurs fans on social media who believed that the Portuguese could be Tottenham bound.

However, Gold hinted that Campos was unlikely to come to Spurs, pointing out that the club only appointed Steve Hitchen as their Technical Performance Director or in his terms, director of football last month following the creation of a Football Board consisting of Trevor Birch, Rebecca Caplehorn and Steve Hitchen which is chaired by Daniel Levy (Spurs official).
