Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur are considering a move to re-sign Marcus Edwards due to their lack of homegrown options.

A couple of days ago, the print edition of Correio da Manha (via Sport Witness) revealed that Spurs have expressed an interest in bringing Edwards back to the club, six years on from his departure from Hotspur Way.
The report claimed that the Sporting Lisbon star is keen to return to England this summer and pointed out that Tottenham would be able to sign him on a discount as they still have a 35 per cent sell-on clause on their former player.
The same information has now been backed up by Gold, who explains that Spurs are keen to ensure they do not fall short of homegrown players and have thus identified Edwards as a potential option to strengthen their attack.

Tottenham are interested in a Marcus Edwards return
He says that while Tottenham have not made a concrete approach for the 25-year-old, the winger would be ‘happy’ to return to his old club this summer.
Gold points out that Spurs are not the only English club eyeing Edwards, with the Sporting star also said to be on the radars of Crystal Palace.
The journalist asserts that the Portuguese club value the talented attacker at around £15m and adds that Ange Postecoglou’s men may be able to sign him for around £9.7m due to their sell-on clause.

Edwards has had a decent 2023-24 season but he has not set the world alight. There are perhaps question marks over whether he is good enough to be a regular starter for a top-four Premier League side but the 25-year-old would be a decent squad player.
