Alasdair Gold dismisses rumour that Spurs have agreed fee for 21-year-old

Tweeting on Friday evening, Football.London Tottenham Hotspur correspondent, Alasdair Gold, has claimed that Spurs are yet to agree a fee with Middlesbrough for wing-back Djed Spence.

Spence is currently on international duty with England (England Football) after an impressive season which saw him excel in Nottingham Forest’s Championship play-off success.

The right-sided wing-back made 42 appearances for Steve Cooper’s men in the league, scoring twice and assisting five times as well as displaying impressive defensive capabilities (TransferMarkt).

Spence’s physicality, aggression, and dribbling ability has made him a target for a number of Premier League clubs this summer. The Sun claim that Brentford, Bayern Munich and North London rivals Spurs and Arsenal all hold an interest in Spence.

The Guardian reported on Friday that Spurs had agreed a £20 million fee with Spence’s parent club, Middlesbrough.

However, Gold denied this claim, suggesting that although a fee is yet to be agreed on, talks are likely to progress in the next few days.

The signing of Spence looks like a no-brainer. Although he is clearly not the finished article, he has bags of potential and looks like he could become an electric wing-back under Antonio Conte’s guidance. With a fee of £20 million being rumoured, the risk is surely too slim to turn down.
