Alasdair Gold dismisses rumours linking Spurs with 28-year-old

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Jannik Vestergaard is not a target for Tottenham this summer despite suggestions to the contrary in the British press.

Vestergaard is set to enter the final year of his contract at St Mary’s at the end of the season. Reports indicate that Spurs are eyeing a potential summer move for the Dane as they look to bolster their options at centre-back.

It has even been suggested that Tottenham view the Saints star as a potential alternative to Milan Skriniar if Inter refuse to sell the Slovak this summer.

However, multiple sources (The Athletic and Hampshire Live) have also revealed that Southampton have opened talks with the 28-year-old over a new contract to ward off Tottenham’s interest.

Vestergaard himself has remained coy over his future when asked about the rumours linking him with a move to Spurs.

Gold has now revealed that the centre-back is not one of the options Tottenham are considering but added that his compatriot Joachim Andersen is on the club’s radar.

When asked about Tottenham’s rumoured interest in Vestergaard, the journalist said in a Q & A with some Spurs fans: “Vestergaard I don’t believe is a target at this moment.

“I know Spurs do like Andersen, Dunk and Milenkovic among others and for me, Andersen ticks all the boxes the club are looking for, a leader, not too old and with Premier League experience.

“It all depends on that price tag.”

It sounds like Vestergaard’s agent might have fed the rumours about Tottenham’s interest to the press in order to get his client a lucrative new contract with Southampton.
