Alasdair Gold expects Spurs to ‘compete for both players’ signatures’ this summer

Tottenham Hotspur have an interest in both Joachim Andersen and Marcel Sabitzer, according to journalist Alasdair Gold.

The Daily Express reported last month that Tottenham are due to meet with Andersen’s representatives to discuss a move to North London in the summer having impressed during his season-long loan at Fulham, whoever they may face competition from fierce rivals Arsenal (Telegraph).

The 24-year-old, who moved to the Cottagers from Fulham has made 29 appearances in the Premier League this season but was unable to help Scott Parker’s side from dropping back into the Championship (transfermarkt).

German news outlet Bild claimed in March that Sabitzer had a ’75 per cent’ chance of joining Tottenham this summer while Jose Mourinho was still in charge.

The Austrian international is out of contract at RB Leipzig in the summer of 2022 and is said to have told the Bundesliga that he does not intend on putting pen to paper on a new deal.

The journalist admits while there is interest in the pair, the current financial situation of the club along with who is appointed as the next head coach could have a deciding factor on whether either arrive this summer.

Gold said during a Q&A on Football.London on whether Spurs are interested in Andersen and whether the club will move for Sabitzer, regardless of who is in charge:

“Both are players that Spurs like a lot. Again though it comes down to money and who they can sell to bolster funds this summer. They’ve lost a lot of money this year due to the pandemic and, barring the most miraculous set of results around them, they’re not going to have Champions League money next season.

“I do believe they will try to compete for both players’ signatures this summer, although of course, the new manager may come in and not want them which could change plans rather rapidly. They’re certainly players the club have watched for a number of seasons.”
