Alasdair Gold explains how Spurs manager shortlist has changed post-Paratici

Alasdair Gold has revealed in his column for Football.London that Tottenham are now looking at a ‘range of relatively younger candidates’ following Fabio Paratici’s departure.

It was well documented that Paratici was spearheading Tottenham’s search for a new head coach (The Athletic) until the Italian was forced to resign after his worldwide ban was upheld last month.

Gold has now said that the former Spurs managing director of football had identified Luis Enrique, Julian Nagelsmann, Roberto De Zerbi, as well as Porto boss Sergio Conceicao as potential options to take over from Antonio Conte.

The journalist explained that following Paratici’s departure, Daniel Levy and co are looking at younger options in an attempt to replicate what Mauricio Pochettino achieved at Tottenham when he arrived at the club in 2014.

As a result, apart from Nagelsmann and De Zerbi, the Spurs hierarchy’s current shortlist is said to include Arne Slot, Vincent Kompany, Xabi Alonso, Ruben Amorim and Ange Postecoglou.

It is interesting to note that Gold does not mention Enrique as now being part of the shortlist, which suggests that the Spaniard is no longer a top contender for the job following Paratici’s departure.

In case Tottenham fail to persuade Nagelsmann, it seems increasingly likely that the club would take a gamble on a relatively inexperienced candidate such as Kompany.
