Alasdair Gold has revealed that Ange Postecoglou is keen on snapping up James Maddison as he feels the Leicester City star can play in multiple systems.
Multiple outlets have reported over the last couple of weeks that Maddison is seen as a ‘priority target’ by Postecoglou (The Telegraph).
Gold has now explained why that is the case, revealing in his latest column for Football.London that the new Spurs head coach likes to alternate between a 4-3-3 and a 4-2-3-1.
It is said that the Australian sees Maddison as a versatile option who can play a range of roles in a midfield three while being able to operate in the central role behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1 or even on the right of a front three if required.
Gold says that is why Postecolgou ‘likes’ Maddison and he also reveals that the two men happen to share the same agency with CAA Base, who also boast clients such as Son Heung-min, Richarlison and Pedro Porro.
Gold confirms Spurs have explored Leicester duo
The journalist adds that Tottenham are also interested in Maddison’s Leicester teammate, Harvey Barnes and that the Lilywhites have explored a double deal for the pair even though they continue to claim that no such offer has been made.

It appears clear that Postecoglou has identified Maddison and David Raya as his two non-negotiables due to their fit for his system.
Tottenham are seemingly trying to get both those deals over the line before the squad flies out to Asia and Australia.
