Alasdair Gold explains the delay over Djed Spence deal and when move could be announced

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham may not officially announce Djed Spence’s arrival until Monday.

Spence looks set to be Tottenham’s sixth signing of the summer transfer window, with reports claiming over recent days that the right-back has completed his medical ahead of a switch from Middlesbrough to Spurs (Daily Mail).

The 21-year-old had an outstanding campaign on loan at Nottingham Forest last season and Spurs fans will be excited about the dynamism he can add from the right wing-back role.

Gold has now revealed that not only has Spence completed his medical but he has also finished his media duties with Tottenham over the weekend.

However, the journalist has suggested that there are still ‘last bits of paperwork’ that need to be finalised before the deal is formally announced, and explained that there is a chance that the announcement could be delayed until Monday.

Gold also backs up what has been reported by other publications regarding the transfer fee, stating that Spurs will pay an initial £12.5m for the England Under-21 international with another £7.5m in potential add-ons.

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like the deal should be completed in time for Spence to join up with the Spurs squad for pre-season training at Hotspur Way on Tuesday. The 21-year-old seems like a natural athlete and I suspect he would be better equipped than most to deal with the intensity of Gian Piero Ventrone’s pre-season drills.
