Alasdair Gold explains what he has heard about Spurs interest in Kompany

Alasdair Gold has talked up the chances of Tottenham hiring Vincent Kompany, writing in his column for Football.London that the North London club have indeed explored a move for the Burnley boss.

The speculation linking Kompany with a move to Spurs has been gathering steam over the last week, with The Daily Star claiming a couple of days ago the Belgian is part of the North London club’s four-man shortlist, alongside Julian Nagelsmann, Thomas Frank and Arne Slot.

It has previously been claimed by The Sun last week that the Manchester City legend was the ‘leading contender’ for the Tottenham job and that he would be open to taking over at Hotspur Way.

Gold has now confirmed that Spurs have ‘explored’ a move for Kompany as a ‘youthful option’ despite his lack of experience at the top level.

The journalist adds that Simon Davies, who is the Belgian’s trusted colleague, has made a positive impact at N17 since taking over as the head of the coaching methodology, and he is expected to give a glowing endorsement of the 36-year-old.

However, Gold played down the chances of Mauricio Pochettino returning to Spurs, stating that there are some reservations from both sides.

Spurs Web Opinion

I am not sure if Kompany will want to jump ship from Burnley after helping them win promotion to the Premier League.

The 36-year-old could perhaps look at the experiences of the likes of Frank Lampard and be wary of taking a big job too early in his career.
