Alasdair Gold explains whether Conte has returned to Spurs training yet

Alasdair Gold has revealed that as of Tuesday, Antonio Conte is yet to return to Hotspur Way after he successfully had surgery to remove his gall bladder last week.

Conte had the operation in Italy and continued to recover in his homeland, which meant that he could not oversee the preparations for the clash against Manchester City, and was not present at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the game.

Despite the effervescent Italian’s absence, the Lilywhites managed to deliver a battling display that the Spurs head coach would have been proud of and deservedly and came away with all three points.

The Daily Mail reported on Sunday that Conte was expected to return to London early this week, provided he gets the medical clearance to travel.

However, Gold has now stated that the 53-year-old had not returned to oversee training as of Tuesday evening but the journalist did add that he is expected to be back in time for the trip to the King Power Stadium on Saturday.

When asked about Conte’s recovery, Gold said on a Q&A on Football.London: “The decision over whether Antonio Conte would be back for the Manchester City game was made on Saturday night which means it was a close enough call to leave it that late rather than simply rule it out.

“He wasn’t back at Hotspur Way as of Tuesday as he continues to recover but I understand it’s likely that he’ll be back in time for the match at Leicester.”

Having Conte back will certainly be a big boost to the morale of the squad. It is fantastic news that he is now almost certain to be with the team for their trip to the San Siro as the Italian’s experience and leadership on the touchline would be invaluable for the players on such a big occasion.
