Alasdair Gold explains why Spurs manager hunt may be completely reset

Alasdair Gold has explained on his YouTube Channel that Tottenham’s search for a new manager is now back to square one, with Fabio Paratici set to be appointed as Director of Football.

It seemed as though Spurs had almost everything agreed with Antonio Conte to be the club’s next manager but the situation changed quickly on Friday and reports now indicate that talks have been called off.

It was assumed that Conte and Paratici would arrive together, having enjoyed so much success at Juventus as a duo.

However, The Athletic claim that Tottenham wanted the former Juventus sporting director irrespective of what happened in their pursuit of Conte.

Gold has now explained that Paratici’s arrival means that the Italian will now be entrusted with the task of picking Tottenham’s next manager.

This means that Tottenham are unlikely to move for their previous targets, Mauricio Pochettino and Erik Ten Hag, both of whom were part of a list of targets compiled by the club’s technical performance director Steve Hitchen, according to Gold.

The journalist also suggested that Levy might have gone behind Hitchens’ back in his appointment of Paratici.

Spurs Web Opinion

Most of us just assumed that Tottenham’s pursuit of Paratici was an effort to convince Conte to take the job. However, it could have also been the other way round. Paratici might have agreed to take over but insisted that the club try to bring Conte in. So Spurs might have held serious discussions with Conte to see if the option could work for both parties.
