Alasdair Gold is not concerned about attacker potentially leaving Spurs

Alasdair Gold is not concerned about the prospect of Dejan Kulusevski being poached by a club like Manchester City, pointing out that the Tottenham hierarchy will not let any of their top players leave unless their head coach wants them to.

In less than 12 months since arriving at Tottenham, Kulusevski has already established himself as one of the club’s most important players, and arguably even as one of the best right-wingers in the Premier League.

The 22-year-old’s importance to the side was certainly evident when he was out injured for a month due to a hamstring problem, with the Lilywhites not being the same sort of attacking force without the Swede’s penetration down the right.

Technically, Kulusevski is still on loan from Juventus but Spurs are expected to make the deal permanent for around £31m next summer, which they would be obligated to do if they finish in the top four this season (Fabrizio Romano).

Kulusevski will certainly be attracting envious glances from several top sides in Europe but Gold insisted that the North London club will not consider selling such a huge talent under any circumstances.

When asked in a Q&A on Football.London about the likes of Man City potentially eyeing the winger, the journalist responded: “I don’t think Spurs are that kind of club anymore.

“The last one I can remember is Kyle Walker going to Manchester City, although Mauricio Pochettino seemed to give the move his blessing.

“We saw with Harry Kane last summer, if Spurs don’t want to sell, then they won’t. Dejan Kulusevski, at just 22 has the potential to become world-class.”

Spurs Web Opinion

We had no choice but to sell the likes of Berbatov, Keane and Carrick in the early years of ENIC’s ownership since we as a club were a level below the elite (i.e the old ‘big four’).

However, since we have cemented our status as one of the ‘big six’ (owing to progress both on and off the pitch), the club have refused to even entertain any talks for their top players unless they are forced into a corner and have no choice like the Walker and Eriksen scenarios.
