Alasdair Gold is ‘shocked’ Spurs haven’t started contract talks with star yet

Alasdair Gold is surprised that Tottenham Hotspur have not yet opened negotiations with Harry Kane over a new contract in North London.

The situation surrounding Kane was rather bleak last summer as he actively pushed for a move to Manchester City (Sky Sports).

Antonio Conte came in mid-season and turned things around by helping Tottenham to qualify for this season’s Champions League against all expectations.

Kane has since revealed that he is more than happy with life at Spurs and is also looking forward to working with Conte in the future (Evening Standard).

The Englishman will see his current contract expire in 2024, although there is more confidence within the club that he could renew his deal than there once was (The Athletic).

However, Dean Jones (GiveMeSport) did suggest that the 29-year-old could potentially demand a release clause to be included in the new contract as it would offer him a lifeline if things do not pan out well in North London under Conte.

Gold has now conveyed his disbelief at Tottenham not opening talks with their star striker over a new contact while he is seemingly happy to discuss.

Speaking on his Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, Gold said: “I’m shocked that Spurs haven’t entered into contract talks with him yet, they haven’t offered anything up yet, but it has to be a no-brainer now, all of the vibes we’re getting from those around Kane is that he’s willing to talk about a new deal because he’s very happy at Tottenham now in the Conte-era, so I say get it done because you’re dealing with one of the greatest strikers in Premier League history.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

Tottenham could perhaps be giving Kane a bit of space with the World Cup on the horizon, as he would probably not want to get distracted thinking about his future when playing for his country. Spurs should at least try to learn about Kane’s current feelings regarding his contract though and perhaps lock in meetings for January.
