Alasdair Gold is unsure whether £25m player will be at Spurs next season

Alasdair Gold has admitted that Ryan Sessegnon might have already played his final game for Tottenham Hotspur after the left-back suffered another injury setback.

Sessegnon has been plagued with constant injury problems right from the time he joined Tottenham back in 2019 in a £25m deal.

Just when the 23-year-old had worked hard to return to fitness from the hamstring operation he had to have on his left leg during pre-season, he suffered the same injury on the right side earlier this month and has gone under the knife once again (Spurs official).

The Tottenham man is expected to be out of action for another 12 weeks, which makes it extremely unlikely that he will play again this season.

The former Fulham man took to social media a few days ago to admit that he is devastated at the latest setback but vowed to put in the hard work necessary to return as soon as possible.

Ryan Sessegnon could be moved on in the summer

Gold has now admitted that Spurs might have no choice but to cash in on the young full-back, given his contract situation.

The journalist told the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast: “Whether it is at Tottenham in the future or not, we’ll see, we don’t know, obviously there’s his contract situation that’s currently up in 2025. We don’t know if there’s an option there or not to prolong that for another year, or extend that by another year.

“I think in an ideal world a loan next season probably would be great for him, but like we say, if his contract ends in 2025 you can’t really do that unless there’s some kind of option to buy. Which again for a club, when he’s coming back from a year of not playing, that’s a difficult kind of chance to take for them.”

Spurs would have ideally wanted to send Sessegnon out on loan in January so that he could perhaps deliver a few decent performances and increase his market value ahead of the summer. It now looks quite certain that Tottenham would have to accept a huge loss on the left-back.
