Alasdair Gold makes confident claim regarding Son’s Spurs contract

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has claimed that he expects Son Heung-min to sign a new contract with Tottenham before the start of next season.

While all the talk over recent weeks has been about Harry Kane’s future, Son has one year less to run on his contract than the England captain, with his current deal running out in 2023.

The South Korean had the best season of his career from an individual standpoint this year, scoring 22 goals and providing 17 assists in all competitions.

It was previously reported that the 28-year-old was close to agreeing on a contract extension with the North Londoners.

However, the speculation over Kane’s future has seen some pundits questioning whether the former Bayern Leverkusen man might also be tempted to jump ship this summer.

Gold is not one of those who is worried about Son’s future, with the journalist confidently asserted that he expects the Spurs star to put pen to paper on a new deal this summer.

When asked about the forward’s contract situation in a Q & A with Spurs fans, he responded: “The deal with Son was close to being wrapped up during the season but perhaps the timing wasn’t right with everything gone on in the world.

“I’d be surprised if it’s not finalised this summer. He’s a huge player for Spurs, even with his dip in form with the team in 2021, and from a marketing point of view he’s also a huge money spinner for the club.”
