Alasdair Gold names three centre-backs on Tottenham’s radar for the summer

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to sign two centre-backs next summer and named some of the defenders on Antonio Conte’s current shortlist.

Bild reported on Sunday that Spurs had submitted a verbal offer of €25m (£21.9m) to Bayer Leverkusen for Piero Hincapie while Nicolo Schira revealed on the same day that the Ecuadorian had even agreed to a five-year contract with the North London club.

Gold has now revealed that Tottenham will look to sign one left-sided centre-back and another right-sided one during the summer transfer window, naming Alessandro Bastoni, Marc Guehi and Josko Gvardiol as names on the club’s wishlist.

When asked which other central defenders apart from Hincapie Spurs will target in the summer, the journalist responded in a Q&A on Football.London: “Alessandro Bastoni is the obvious one with Tottenham having been so keen last summer and much will depend on whether Inter can tie him down to a longer contract beforehand.

“Spurs have long liked Marc Guehi at Crystal Palace, although there will be plenty of competition for the England international.

“It’s no secret the man on top of Tottenham’s centre-back wish list has been Josko Gvadiol but the big spending likes of City and Chelsea are also interested which makes that an incredibly difficult one to do without being gazumped.

“There is interest in Hincapie, and Spurs are looking for two new centre-backs in the summer, one for the left and one for the centre/right, so we will see what that eventually brings.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Gvardiol will likely be out of our reach as there will be a massive bidding war for the Leipzig star next summer. I thought until recently that Bastoni would be our top target for the left centre-back role but reports over the last few weeks have seemingly suggested that Tottenham are laying the groundwork to snap up Hincapie instead.
