Reports in Spain have suggested that Tottenham have approached Barcelona with a big offer to sign Frenkie de Jong but this suggestion has been dismissed by Alasdair Gold.
It was reported by Jijantes on Wednesday that Tottenham had already begun their groundwork on a spectacular deal to sign De Jong from Barcelona.
The report alleged that the Lilywhites had approached the La Liga giants with an offer of €60m (£51.2m) for the Netherlands international.
It was explained that Spurs were also willing to offer the 26-year-old a contract that would see him earn the same salary as he does at Barca as long as he achieves some performance-related objectives.
This report comes at a time when it has been widely reported that the Catalan club need to offload several of their big-name players as they owe £85m in instalments to their creditors in the summer (Marca).

Tottenham have not placed a big for Frenkie de Jong
However, this update from Jijantes has now been squashed by Alasdair Gold, who took to social media to insist that there is no truth to reports of a Tottenham offer for De Jong.

There is no doubt that Tottenham and several other Premier League clubs will be sniffing around a few Barca players, knowing that the La Liga side would have offload a few assets in the summer.
However, there is no chance that Spurs would be prepared to come close to the over half a million per week that De Jong is currently earning at Nou Camp, given the tight wage structure the North London side maintain.
