The January transfer window opens in just over one month. While there are many areas in the squad which could be improved, some may have to wait until the summer.

What do Tottenham need?
Although there are many fixtures to be played before January 1st, an essential part of the winter transfer window is having your ducks in a row before it opens.
Tottenham Hotspur have again struggled with a lack of depth at centre-back with combined absences from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero. A left-footed defender who can cover Van de Ven as well as the heavily utilised Destiny Udogie, is likely the highest priority.
However, there is another position in the squad that is being reported as one which Ange Postecoglou would love to reinforce.

Ange wants another creative midfielder
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has revealed that the Spurs boss has his eye on bringing in another creative midfielder.
Gold said: “I’m sure Postecoglou would love to have another creative midfielder, I’m sure he would love to have it, but it would have to be someone perfect for that role or a versatile player who can play various roles. Otherwise, I would imagine that’s more of a position for the summer.”

Creative profile needed, but squad places need considering
In spite of Tottenham having depth in numbers in midfield, Postecoglou wanting to add another creative profile makes sense. Dejan Kulusevski, Pape Sarr, Lucas Bergvall and Rodrigo Bentancur all tend to generate an attacking threat when they carry the ball. Adding someone similar to James Maddison who can unlock packed defences with passing would benefit the team.
However, Tottenham already have one player too many in their Europa League squad registration, with Djed Spence currently unable to be registered. Any other player joining Tottenham would require other players to leave or be left off the list.
Any creative midfielder joining Tottenham would likely have to be during the summer when a more significant squad re-shuffle could additionally take place.
