Alasdair Gold has suggested Tottenham could make Dynamo Kyiv defender Ilya Zabarnyi their next ‘surprise’ signing this summer.
Spurs have been one of the busier Premier League sides in the early parts of the summer, securing three incomings as they gear up towards the new campaign.
The club recently brought in midfielder Yves Bissouma from Brighton which added to the earlier free signings of Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster.
Tottenham’s move for the Mali international was kept rather discreet, which has now led to questions regarding the club’s next deals and where they may come from.
Asked about a potential name who could be the next behind-the-scenes acquisition, Football.London journalist Gold listed teenage Ukraine international Zabarnyi as someone to keep an eye on.
He told his YouTube channel: “Like I say, the young Ukrainian lad, Zabarnyi, I would keep a little eye on him, because I do wonder, even if it’s not Spurs if someone comes in for him and I do know that Spurs are having a really good look at him as a potential signing, so maybe he’s the one.
“I guess that if there was to be a surprise one, that would be the one, but it’s difficult to say a surprise signing because that’s what the surprise element is.”
Football.London reported earlier this month that Tottenham have been weighing up a move for Zabarnyi, having monitored his displays earlier last season.
The versatile centre-back made 23 appearances for Dynamo Kyiv (Transfermarkt) before the Ukrainian Premier League was suspended due to the Russian invasion.
Spurs Web Opinion
Someone like Zabarnyi could very well be a player that Tottenham look to acquire on the down-low, especially considering he is playing in a lesser-discussed European league.
He is rated quite highly and already has plenty of experience on the international stage which could bode well for him going forward.
