The same old problems for Timo Werner

There has been a lot said and written about Timo Werner‘s lack of end product over the years and the German has done little to dispel the narrative around his poor finishing this season.

While the 28-year-old has got into some good positions and has posed a threat down the left, he has been let down by his final pass or his finishing time and again, demonstrating a lack of composure.

With Richarlison and Wilson Odobert out with long-term injuries, Ange Postecoglou will have to rely on the former Chelsea man and the Tottenham head coach will hope that his delivery and finishing will improve once the forward grows in confidence.

Can Werner’s loan spell be ended in January?

Some Spurs fans might be keen on ending Werner’s loan spell prematurely and sending him back to RB Leipzig in January.

However, Alasdair Gold has said on his YouTube channel that no such option exists to cut short the agreement during the upcoming transfer window.

The journalist explained that Leipzig hold the ultimate power in deciding whether the Germany international will stay at Spurs or return to the Red Bull Arena.

Werner offers something other Spurs wingers do not

While one can understand Tottenham fans’ frustrations with Werner, the reality is that despite his lack of composure, the wide-forward does have some handy qualities.

With Odobert now sidelined, Werner is the only attacker in the Spurs squad who consistently drives forward with the ball and takes on his man at every opportunity.

That does provide a point of difference to Tottenham, who struggle to open up low blocks with Heung-min Son and Brennan Johnson on either flank.
