Alasdair Gold provides positive fitness update on Oliver Skipp ahead of pre-season

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Oliver Skipp will be ready to hit the ground running from the first day of pre-season after making a full recovery from his injury.

Skipp made an impressive start to the 2021/22 campaign after returning from his loan spell at Norwich City and the midfielder was arguably the Lilywhites’ most consistent performer in the first half of the campaign.

The 21-year-old also seemed to quickly establish himself as one of Antonio Conte’s favourites after the Italian replaced Nuno Espirito Santo at the helm in November of last year.

However, the 21-year-old has been out of action with a pelvic injury since the start of February, with Spurs eventually confirming in April that the youngster had undergone surgery and would only return to action during pre-season ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Gold has now revealed that the surgery was undertaken by a specialist in the United States and that Skipp’s recovery since going under the knife has been quite quick.

In fact, the Spurs academy graduate was said to be running outdoors and working with the ball on the training pitches at Hotspur Way during the final weeks of the season.

Gold claims that Skipp is now raring to go for the start of the club’s first pre-season under Antonio Conte and his coaching staff, which starts in less than a month.

The journalist adds that Conte values the England Under-21 international’s tactical intelligence and fitness levels, and believes he can turn him into a top midfielder.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is easy to forget how good Skipp was in a Tottenham side that was struggling under Nuno for the first few months of the season. The 21-year-old will essentially be like a new signing for us and I am quite excited about the prospect of watching him play alongside Rodrigo Bentancur.
