Alasdair Gold provides positive update ahead of Tottenham’s fixture against Leicester

Alasdair Gold has provided a positive squad update ahead of Tottenham’s Premier League fixture against Leicester this week.

Spurs are due to face the Foxes at the King Power Stadium on Thursday evening but with some doubt as to whether the fixture will actually go ahead.

Antonio Conte’s side have been battling with an outbreak of COVID-19 over the last week, which caused Sunday’s trip to Brighton to be postponed.

The outbreak also caused Spurs’ Europa Conference League tie against Rennes to be called off, with a big question mark lingering as to whether Spurs will continue in the competition.

However, Football.London correspondent Gold has issued some more uplifting news ahead of Spurs’ trip to Leicester, with some players starting to return to first-team training following their set periods of isolation.

Spurs closed the first-team area of the club’s Hotspur Way training ground last week in a bid to restrain the spread, but reports have emerged stating Conte will lead a depleted squad of players in gruelling sessions set for Tuesday.

Gold said: ‘Hopefully looking good for Tottenham’s match at Leicester. Antonio Conte’s press conference is set for tomorrow afternoon at 1.30 pm and I understand some players have started to return to training following their isolation periods.’

Spurs appear to be in a phase where the virus is being contained and the spread is slowing, but obviously, care will need to be taken.

Even though the players will have been keeping up their fitness away from the training ground, it will still take some time to see them back at their peak.
