Alasdair Gold provides update on Gareth Bale situation at Spurs

It has been a season of ups and downs for Gareth Bale following his sensational return to Tottenham Hotspur on loan last summer.

The Welshman arrived from Real Madrid injured and without regular game time under his belt from the previous season.

It took the Los Blancos star a good few months to work his way into Jose Mourinho’s plans before he really hit his stride at the turn of the new year.

Unfortunately, the Bale resurgence seemed fleeting as he was soon dropped after a poor performance against Arsenal in the North London Derby.

However, a change of manager has seen Bale come back into the regular starting XI, repaying Mason’s faith with a hat-trick against Sheffield United last week.

Football London reported this week that Spurs do have the first option to bring Bale back again next season on the same terms, which is around 40% of his Madrid wages.

However, while Alasdair Gold has pointed out how clinical the Welshman still is, he also claimed that Bale often leaves his right-back under pressure and can’t press from the front as other wingers may be able to.

He added that Spurs will have to decide whether the moments of magic are worth the shortcomings.
