Alasdair Gold provides update on Tottenham’s interest in Franck Kessie

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Antonio Conte is a ‘big fan’ of Barcelona midfielder Franck Kessie.

Kessie has struggled for game time since his summer switch to Barcelona, and Tottenham were first credited with an interest in the midfielder at the start of this month when AS reported that the North London club were exploring a move for the 26-year-old.

The report added that the Catalan club valued the Ivory Coast international at just €10m (£8.5m) since they signed him on a free transfer in the summer.

On Thursday, journalist Alfredo Martinez told Radioestadio Noche that the North London club had launched an opening offer of €15m (£13.2m) for the Kessie.

While Gold has now neither confirmed nor denied that update, he has revealed that the Lilywhites are keeping a close eye on the midfielder’s situation at Barcelona.

The journalist explains that while Kessie is keen to stay at Camp Nou and Xavi Hernandez wants to keep him, the Catalan club’s financial problems raise the prospect of them cashing in on the former AC Milan man.

Spurs Web Opinion

Despite Kessie’s struggles at Barcelona, I see the 26-year-old as being a good fit for Conte’s system and the Premier League. I would prefer Spurs to sign the Ivorian over either Weston McKennie or Ruslan Malinovskyi, who are the two other number eights we have been heavily linked with.
