Alasdair Gold reports ‘suggestions’ Levy travelled to Qatar recently amid QSI investment talk

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Daniel Levy made a trip to Qatar as recently as the Christmas period, amidst rumours of talks with Qatar Sports Investments.

It first emerged more than a week ago that QSI chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi had met with Daniel Levy to discuss buying a minority stake in Tottenham (CBS Sports).

The news has understandably delighted a section of the Spurs fan base, who have been critical of the current owners’ lack of investment in the first team.

The Telegraph revealed on Tuesday that QSI are exploring an offer under £1 billion for a 25 per cent stake in the club.

However, Spurs fans who had hoped for the deal to go through were hit with a reality check a couple of days ago when The Daily Mail revealed that QSI’s talks are not likely to prove fruitful.

The report explained that this was because Tottenham owner Joe Lewis prefers a full sale of the club rather than a partial one, with restrictions not allowing QSI to own a majority stake in the North London club since they already own Paris Saint-Germain.

Gold has now once again spoken about the consortium’s interest in Spurs and Levy’s relationship with Al-Khelaifi.

The journalist said on the latest episode of the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “Daniel Levy and Nasser Al-Khelaifi are good friends and have been for a long time. PSG and Spurs have done loads of deals in the past.

“They’re both involved in the ECA, and apparently when they’re in the same city they meet up. That’s the side of the relationship that can’t be denied.

“I understand that Levy was in Qatar for an ECA meeting in early December, while there are also suggestions he was in Qatar again over the festive period.

“From what I understand the meeting last week was the second time the subject of the potential investment has been broached, Spurs deny this.”

It is worth pointing out that Al-Khelaifi is also the chairman of beIN Media Group and of the European Club Association (ECA). So, one should not assume that his talks with Levy could only centre around QSI’s interest in Spurs, particularly with Gold pointing out on multiple occasions that the two are good friends.
