Alasdair Gold responds to rumours of Tottenham Lopetegui approach

Alasdair Gold has reported that Paulo Fonesca was Fabio Paratici’s main target after Tottenham’s talks with Antonio Conte collapsed.

Fonseca now looks set to be announced as the next Tottenham head coach after parting ways with Roma on the back of a disappointing seventh-place finish.

However, Castles alleged in last week’s episode of The Transfer Window Podcast (starting at 3:58) that Tottenham made a move for Julen Lopetegui and only turned their attentions to Fonseca after they failed in their attempts to snap up the Sevilla boss.

Castles explained that Spurs had made significant progress in their pursuit of Lopetegui, even agreeing on terms with Sevilla to release the former Real Madrid boss from his contract, only for the Spanish coach to reject the club’s approach for personal reasons.

However, Gold has now admitted in a Q & A on Football.London that he has not heard anything about Tottenham’s alleged interest in Lopetegui, insisting that Fonseca was the man who was second on Paratici’s list after Conte.

The journalist also added that Fonseca’s camp held further talks with Paratici in Milan on Tuesday to go over ‘the final details’ ahead of his arrival.
